Blood Cancer Community Comes Together for Volunteer-led, Light The Night Victoria Community Walk

Loblaws Superstores taking part in this weekend's fundraiser to support blood cancer patients.

VICTORIA, April 12, 2019 /CNW/ - Over 100 participants will gather at Centennial Square to take part in the volunteer-led, Light The Night Victoria Community Walk. The Victoria Walk was the first ever Light the Night Walk in Canada, making it a special event for everyone involved. At twilight, patients and families, will walk in solidarity with lanterns raised to bring help and hope to the more than 138,000 Canadians affected by blood cancers.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada (CNW Group/The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada)

Peter Nadler, will be among those attending this unique event where the entire blood cancer community comes together to celebrate, remember and fan the flames of hope.

In 2008 after routine blood work, Peter was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. He was told this was an incurable form of leukemia and that it was likely to be aggressive and would not respond well to chemo. Today more than eleven years later, Peter is doing better than ever, thanks largely to the great care from BC Cancer, support from The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada and recent developments in novel treatments including iBrutinib.

In 2018, over 35,000 Canadians raised over $5.9 million to help fund world-class Canadian research and provide support services at no cost to thousands of blood cancer patients, survivors and their families.

At the volunteer-led, Light The Night Victoria Community Walk, the Nadler family will join hundreds of others at this singular gathering of the blood cancer community.

Can't make it to the event? Cashiers from the Superstore in Victoria will be asking for $2 donations at the till from April 27 ? May 2 to support blood cancer patients.
