Award-Winning Actress Kerry Cahill of the Oscar-Nominated Film Mudbound and The Walking Dead will Host Mutts & Moonshine to Benefit for Train a Dog, Save a Warrior

COVINGTON, La., April 11, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Dine out and drink up to help veterans and rescue dogs at The Blind Tiger Restaurant Covington on Thursday, April 18, 2019. The Mardi Paws non-profits (The Ian Somerhalder Foundation & Scott's Wish) and Tito's Vodka for Dog People have teamed up with two restaurants, The Blind Tiger in Covington and Wrong Iron in Mid-City New Orleans, to host a PAWS-itively HOWLING good time to benefit TADSAW, "Train a Dog- Save a Warrior".

Mutts & Moonshine is proud to become part of history in the service dog world by sponsoring the 1000th service dog team for TADSAW in addition to 8 other Rescue Dog/Veteran Teams. TADSAW Program Director Bart Sherwood, trainers, and past recipients will be on hand to answer questions and provide information to veterans interested in obtaining a service dog through their program.

The evening's host, award-winning actress Kerry Cahill has long advocated for veterans and animals through many charitable causes. Cahill was the past national spokesperson for AMVETS, the oldest and largest veterans service organization open to all American veterans in the U.S. Armed Forces. She has also been a supporter for the National Guard and Reserves, which advocates for veterans and their families, and a significant proponent for Help Heal Veterans a non-profit that issues free craft kits for wounded veterans.

Hailing from a military family who moved often, Cahill grew up an army brat in small rural towns of Montana, Oregon, and Texas. She has called New Orleans home since 2000. "I've lived here longer than I've lived anywhere else, and there is no place like New Orleans," Cahill says.

Cahill studied drama at Loyola University in New Orleans, the British American Drama Academy Oxford, Queen's University Belfast, and later studied at Second City in Chicago. Cahill's film break came under the director Werner Herzog in BAD LIEUTENANT. Cahill was in the Oscar-nominated film Mudbound, and she is well-known for her role as Dianne in AMC's post-apocalyptic zombie horror series The Walking Dead, the blockbuster movie Terminator Genisys, True Detective, NCIS: New Orleans, Free State of Jones with Matthew McConaughey among others.

Cahill is a Gold Star Family member; during the Nov. 5, 2009, mass shooting at Fort Hood, considered the deadliest terrorist attack at the time since 9/11, Cahill's father, Retired Chief Warrant Officer-2 Michael Cahill lost his life after charging the shooter with a chair. "My dad saved lives," says Cahill about her father, who was working as a physician's assistant and was the only civilian killed in the attack. "You become your habits, and my dad was always that guy who did the right thing versus the easy thing, like sticking up for and helping his patients and his soldiers.

Cahill said, "It has been an honor to serve our military veterans. I appreciate everything that veterans do for our freedom, so I am committed to helping them find and obtain the services they need." Cahill says, "Approximately 1% of our country connects to the military in some way. I can't think of a more incredible group of people to help. I always say; you fought for us now let us fight for you."

Our generous restaurants, The Blind Tiger in Covington and Wrong Iron in Mid-City, have committed to contribute 25% percent of sales from the evening. Both venues have recently opened to rave reviews and boast dog-friendly areas.

The Train a Dog Save a Warrior (TADSAW) program serves the veteran, the family and the community, by providing the warrior with a K-9 rescue 'Battle Buddy' and the training and tools needed to become an accredited TADSAW Warrior/Service Dog Team. TADSAW combines the disciplines of Occupational, Physical, Psycho-therapeutic and Spiritual therapy in a single program designed to reconnect and heal the Veteran over a period of time with the training of a Rescue Dog as a canine Battle Buddy. This extensive and costly training is at no charge to the warrior and his dog, with training lasting 20-25 weeks, and is based upon AKC Canine Good Citizenship training with Service Dog accreditation coming from the successful completion of a Public Access Temperament Test.

TADSAW has changed the quality of life for over 1300 veterans and shelter dogs for the better.

For hundreds of wounded veterans, the long walk to recovery is often a lonely one. A long walk is something most dogs love.
