Media Advisory - Unifor hosts budget watch events to stay informed on Conservative cuts

TORONTO, April 9, 2019 /CNW/ - Unifor members are organizing events at union halls across the province to watch the provincial budget announcement and discuss the effects of Budget 2019.

"We will not let the Conservatives get away with diversions and distractions while they cut away at the foundation of our public services," said Naureen Rizvi, Unifor Ontario Regional Director. "Unifor members are plugged into a growing grassroots movement to demand better from their government, while the Ford Conservatives only seem interested in enriching their already wealthy friends."

In a pre-budget submission, Unifor recommended that the provincial government reverse course and fully fund healthcare and long-term care in Ontario. The union also demanded that the government stop its attack on workers' rights and on students.

"The people of Ontario have been unequivocal; public services need investment, not cuts. Workers are not willing to trade away the promise of a prosperous, green, and healthy future to satisfy Ford's shortsighted tax cuts," said Jerry Dias, Unifor National President.

Media are invited to attend local events listed below where union members will be available for comment. Locals are hosting both panel events with local leadership and wider budget watch parties open to the community.
