April 15 at Parc Jean-Drapeau - Start of the sports season at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve and the Olympic Basin

MONTRÉAL, April 5, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - The Société du parc Jean-Drapeau (SPJD) is pleased to announce the annual reopening of Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve and the Olympic Basin on April 15. The Parc's crew is currently in the process of cleaning and removing the remnants of winter from the multi-purpose trail, which is highly popular with sports and ? especially ? cycling enthusiasts. With the major events leaving their alternative sites on Île Notre-Dame and moving back to Île Sainte-Hélène, the SPJD has an accessible circuit and top-notch facilities in place for all levels of athletes and sporting enthusiasts.

The bike path linking the South Shore and Parc Jean-Drapeau, as well as the path leading to the de la Concorde Bridge, both of which are used by cyclists on a daily basis, will be open as of April 6 and they will remain open all summer long, except for a few days while the Grand Prix du Canada is on in June.

The Parc's Olympic Basin, the training site for athletes and sports teams in rowing, canoe-kayaking and dragon-boating and the host site for various high-calibre competitive events and championships, is also getting back into service with an enhanced offering, since it became the Para-Canoeing national training centre last spring.

Enhanced summer schedule at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve

Through the collaborative efforts of the Parc Jean-Drapeau staff and the members of the Parity Advisory Committee for the practice of sports, which includes representatives from Vélo Québec, the Fédération Québécoise des Sports Cyclistes, Triathlon Québec, Parasports Québec and the City of Montréal, Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve will be open to sports enthusiasts with an enhanced schedule for more than 170 days.

Work in the vicinity of the track and Parc Jean-Drapeau access

While they are in the area, users of Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve will have to obey regulations and signage in force on the track, since they will have to cope with some ongoing construction work in the vicinity of the track. The work includes adjustments to the circuit's protective walls, renovations to the Jean-Doré Beach filtration station and setting up the grandstands for the staging of the 2019 Grand Prix du Canada.

Also, due to ongoing work on the Jacques Cartier Bridge and Île Saint-Hélène, the SPJD would like to remind all Parc users to check the advisories posted on its website so they can properly plan their travel and use the suggested alternative routes.

The provisional schedule for Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in 2019 as well as all the notices related to the accesses to the Parc are available at parcjeandrapeau.com.
