Supporting Cultural Infrastructure in Peterborough

The Government of Canada is investing in the construction of a new facility for the Canadian Canoe Museum

PETERBOROUGH, ON, April 1, 2019 /CNW/ - Investments in cultural spaces help build vibrant communities by supporting inspiring places where people can gather to learn about arts and heritage.

The Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism, announced today that the Government of Canada is investing $10 million to support the construction of a new facility for the Canadian Canoe Museum in Peterborough.

The new museum building will meet environmentally sustainable design standards and will be located on a Parks Canada site adjacent to the Peterborough Lift Lock National Historic Site on the Trent-Severn Waterway. It will house the museum's entire collection, offer modular programming space and allow for paddling activities on the waterway.

The government is providing support to the museum through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund.

Our world-class collection and stories have a pivotal role to play in understanding our past and our collective future. We are so grateful for this support."
