Mark Malloch-Brown Joins United Nations Foundation Board

WASHINGTON, March 18, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The United Nations Foundation today announced the appointment of Lord Mark Malloch-Brown as its newest Board member. An experienced diplomat and strategic thinker, he will bring valuable guidance to how the UN Foundation can support the UN in delivering progress for everyone, everywhere.

Lord Malloch-Brown served as United Nations Deputy Secretary-General as well as Chef de Cabinet under then Secretary-General Kofi Annan in 2006. Before that he spent six years as Administrator of the UN Development Programme, leading the UN's development efforts globally. He also previously served as Minister of State in the UK Government's Foreign Office and as a Vice President at the World Bank.

Additionally, Lord Malloch-Brown has extensive experience in the private sector; he is currently a Senior Advisor with political risk consultants at the Eurasia Group. He has also served as Chair of the Business and Sustainable Development Commission, which worked to align business practices with the Sustainable Development Goals. He began his career as a journalist for The Economist.

"We are honored to have Mark Malloch-Brown join the UN Foundation Board of Directors," said UN Foundation Founder and Chairman, Ted Turner. "In our work to help the UN advance its critical mission, Mark's vast experience will be deeply valued."

The United Nations remains indispensable to tackling humanity's greatest challenges and driving global progress. As the world grows more connected, problems are becoming more complex, including the impacts of climate change, the changing nature of conflict, the resurgence of global diseases like measles, and the uncharted risks of frontier technology.

"The role of the United Nations cannot be understated," said Lord Malloch-Brown. "We are in a race against time to solve monumental challenges like climate change, and we have huge gains to make against poverty, disease, and insecurity if we act together. I look forward to joining my eminent fellow Board members to guide the UN Foundation's work as a strategic partner, helping the UN tackle challenges and harness opportunities for all."

The UN Foundation Board includes accomplished leaders from around the world. Former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan was a serving Board member at the time of his passing in 2018.
