Analysis Group's Sue Tierney to Testify on Climate Change and the Electric Industry Before Senate Committee

BOSTON, March 4, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Analysis Group, one of the largest international economics consulting firms, announced that Senior Advisor Susan F. Tierney, Ph.D., will testify during tomorrow's hearing before the US Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources on trends in the US electric industry that are affecting emissions of greenhouse gases.

It has become well understood that the US electric power system is undergoing a major transition, driven predominantly by low natural gas prices that have led to increased use of gas for power generation. Declining costs of wind and solar projects, along with flat demand?even as the economy has grown?have also had significant impacts on the changing resource mix for electricity generation.

The hearing will explore the latest evidence, trends, and background ahead of future hearings to explore what can be done to stem further impact of a changing climate. Dr. Tierney's testimony will include an overview of the latest data reflecting the evolution of the electric industry, such as:

• A substantial shift in power generation and capacity by source since 1990, resulting in a changing reliance on different fuel sources
• A decline in electricity payments relative to gross domestic product and personal income
• A reduction in power-sector emissions due to consumption preferences and production diversity
• A shrinking gap between projected emissions and estimated reductions across current policies

The hearing will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. EST in Room 366 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building in Washington, DC.
