SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 11, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- It's been more than 15 years since Julia Roberts played the role of Erin Brockovich, the modern-day "David" who shows no fear in going toe-to-toe with the "Goliaths" of the world. The film saw Roberts win an Oscar for best leading actress, and it thrust Brockovich into the role of 20th century icon. On Saturday, February 23, at 2:00 p.m. Brockovich will bring her positive message of personal empowerment to Utah as a speaker for the Salt Lake Women's Show.
In 1996, while Brockovich was working as an unknown legal researcher at the law firm of Masry & Vititoe, she stumbled across medical records that prompted her to embark on an exhaustive investigation into California power giant, Pacific Gas & Electric. Her unwavering tenacity and refusal to back down in the face of fierce pressure led to the largest direct-action lawsuit of its kind. PG&E was forced to pay out $333 million ? the largest toxic tort injury settlement in U.S. history ? for poisoning the water in the small town of Hinkley, California for more than 30 years.
Brockovich is currently one of the most requested speakers on the international lecture circuit. She has a New York Times Bestseller "Take it from Me: Life's a Struggle, But You Can Win," and two fiction novels under her belt. For three seasons, she was the host of the Lifetime television series "Final Justice with Erin Brockovich." Today, she is the president of Brockovich Research & Consulting, a firm that is currently involved in numerous environmental projects worldwide.
Brockovich will speak at the Salt Lake Women's Show at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, at the Mountain American EXPO Center in Sandy (9575 S. State St.). Her speech is free with paid admission to the Women's Show. A separate, optional, meet-and-greet photo opportunity will be made available for a fee of $50. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to a local women's charity.
