The hyperlocal channel for Montréal viewers - MAtv® unveils winter schedule


MONTRÉAL, Jan. 22, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - Demonstrating the vitality of Montréal's communities, a bevy of new shows conceived by and for citizens are being added to MAtv's schedule for the Winter 2019 season. Starting Monday, January 28, MAtv's program line-up will be even more finely attuned to the interests of Greater Montréal area residents.

Why MAtv? Because it is more hyperlocal than ever!
MAtv's ongoing involvement in each of the localities where it is present keeps the lines of communication among citizens and local organizations open. MAtv's engagement helps build sense of community and keep residents connected to what is happening in their neighbourhood. With more than 50% of its schedule derived from citizen projects, MAtv is an important local media outlet distinguished by its unique character and its close relationship to viewers.

What's new in English

Concordia Film Festival (Tuesday 10 p.m.) showcases the work of students in Concordia's film production and film animation programs as well as international films screened at the festival's 46th edition. The program also features talks on the film industry and interviews with film profs. My Curious City (Tuesday 8 p.m.), a series created by participants in MAtv's MY Volunteering Program, returns with new episodes and has been expanded to a full hour. It looks at topics related to Montréal living through a different lens.

Educate, equip, inform! 
CityLife and its French-language counterpart Mise À Jour will also be back this winter, informing viewers about goings-on in their city four days per week, Monday through Thursday. Richard Dagenais (CityLife ? Tuesday and Thursday, 6:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.) and Sophie Vallerand (Mise À Jour ? Monday and Wednesday, 6:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.) delve into current issues that affect the lives of Montrealers. They ask the right questions and put things in perspective, in an accessible way. Both shows follow the neighbourhood news that residents care about, but the networks sometimes neglect.

What's new in French

LaFormavie Zen
Get rid of aches and stress in 2019 with a new meditation in motion series created and hosted by Jonathan Lavallée. The technique draws on Qigong, Chinese medicine, yoga and guided meditation to help achieve inner peace and harmony with the energies that surround us. The program is suitable for beginners and veteran relaxation practitioners alike.

Le Hockey junior majeur
This season, some 15 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League games will be broadcasted live, giving hockey fans their first look at the NHLers of the future. Host Mikaël Lalancette, play-by-play announcer Mario Aubé and colour commentator Alain Rajotte will cover all the excitement at hockey arenas in Blainville-Boisbriand, Québec City, Sherbrooke, Chicoutimi, Gatineau and Victoriaville.

Présence autochtone
Host Marco Collin invites audiences to a unique encounter featuring the best of the 28th First Peoples' Festival. Through interviews, performances, short films, music, dance, visual arts and food, the six one-hour episodes give viewers a chance to survey First Nations art and culture in the heart of Montréal. The festival organized by LAND INsIGHTS has been celebrating the cultures of the three Americas since 1990.

Métropolitique
Created by Myriam Kessiby (host) and Donald Gagnon, this new series about municipal affairs is an accessible, informative and engaging show for Montrealers interested in local political issues and the workings of their municipal government. The program keeps viewers abreast of municipal politics through visits and interviews, and tests their knowledge of municipal affairs with a weekly question.

Ma première Place des Arts
Olivier Robillard Laveaux will host Ma première Place des Arts again. The popular talent contest created by SACEF a quarter century ago kick-started the careers of stars such as Nicolas Ciccone, Corneille, IMA, the Boulay sisters, Philippe Brach and Klô Pelgag, and has become a rite of passage for young singers. The classic Montréal event will again feature a crop of talented contestants who are determined to shine. See the stars of tomorrow this spring!

Festival Vue sur la Relève : regard sur les artistes
Host Marilyse Hamelin welcomes Sarah Labelle, the artistic director and general coordinator of the Festival Vue sur la Relève, to the set and introduces viewers to the 2019 cohort of new artists. Some 20 talented newcomers working in music, dance, theatre and the visual arts will be featured.

A window on shows from across Québec

In addition to the wide variety of local content produced by members of their community, viewers will be able to see many shows from the other eight regions served by MAtv. Country music fans will be treated to all-country Saturday nights starting at 9 p.m. with back-to-back broadcasts of Aller-Retour Country, Chanson Via Country, En route vers l'Ouest and the new series Fans de Country, in which host Katty Bessette welcomes guest artists who have been influenced by country.

New episodes of Manger santé: guide simplifié will appeal to anyone who wants to cook balanced and varied meals. The improv tournament La Coupe Romanesque is returning with new teams. For art-lovers, La Scène presents up-and-coming musicians and Projection libre features independent films. Portrait sportif turns the spotlight on young athletes and their world.

Back on MAtv

Active seniors will find Michèle Sirois back at the helm of Ère libre (Saturday 11 a.m. and Sunday 8 p.m.), the show about the joys and challenges of aging. Viewers who want to make exercise part of their daily routine will be pleased to know that LaFormavie Dynamique (Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. and 10 a.m.), Cardio55+ (Saturday and Sunday, 7 a.m.) and Yoga doux (Saturday and Sunday, 7:30 a.m.) will be on the schedule again. Viewers who missed the series Iconique Château Frontenac will have another chance to learn about the historic building and its unique cachet.
