Replacement of Winnipeg Street overpass to preserve vital transport route in Regina

REGINA, Dec. 20, 2018 /CNW/ - Investing in safe efficient roadways is crucial to encouraging economic activity, facilitating trade and creating well-paying jobs.

Today, the Honourable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, on behalf of the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, the Honourable Warren Kaeding, Minister of Government Relations, and His Worship Michael Fougere, Mayor of Regina, announced $28.8 million in joint funding for major improvements to the Winnipeg Street overpass in Regina.

Work involves replacing the existing overpass with a new longer structure to the west, adding two connecting intersections along 9^th Avenue North and realigning the diamond interchanges that connect to the north- and south-bound Ring Road.

Once complete, the new overpass will significantly improve connections among the City's major arterial roads, providing more efficient commutes for residents while supporting the growth and development of Regina.

• Through the Investing in Canada infrastructure plan, the Government of Canada is investing more than $180 billion over 12 years in public transit projects, green infrastructure, social infrastructure, trade and transportation routes, and Canada's rural and northern communities.
