American GreenFuels Takes Steps To Reduce Carbon Emissions in Connecticut As Global Carbon Emissions Reach Record High

NEW HAVEN, Conn., Dec. 18, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The United Nations' climate talks in Poland this month report that scientists worldwide are projecting that global emissions of carbon dioxide will reach the highest levels on record. As carbon emissions are projected to increase, one Connecticut-based company is taking steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

American GreenFuels

American GreenFuels, LLC ("American GreenFuels") recently launched its "You Are What You Heat" campaign, which is dedicated to educate consumers about the option to heat their home with Bioheat® heating oil, utilizing certified biodiesel produced by American GreenFuels. Biodiesel is a renewable, cleaner-burning alternative to diesel fuel that reduces dependence on foreign oil, creates jobs right here in Connecticut, and lowers the negative impact of carbon emissions on the environment.

"I am very excited about this campaign," said Raf Aviner, President of American GreenFuels, LLC and its parent company, Kolmar Americas, Inc., which is based in Bridgeport. "We have worked hard to quadruple our capacity, which now makes us the largest biodiesel manufacturer in the Northeast. This provides a good opportunity to reach out to Connecticut consumers to let them know we are right here in Connecticut working to provide a cleaner environment. We are very proud to employ more than 40 people directly and countless others indirectly in Connecticut to make biodiesel that is blended into heating oil. Certified biodiesel from American GreenFuels meets specific standards and offers environmental benefits to consumers in Connecticut. We hope consumers ask their home heating dealers to make sure they blend American GreenFuels biodiesel into their heating oil."

American GreenFuels' manufacturing plant, located in New Haven, CT, uses waste products from other industries to produce its certified biodiesel, which often includes waste oils like used cooking oil from restaurants and/or food factories. Currently, select heating oil distributors in Connecticut blend certified biodiesel produced by American GreenFuels into traditional ultra low sulfur heating oil to create what is known as Bioheat® heating oil. Bioheat® heating oil typically contains a minimum of 2% to 5% biodiesel. However, higher percentages of biodiesel can be blended into heating oil; all you have to do is ask for it from your home heating oil dealer.

"This is a very exciting campaign for American GreenFuels," said Paul F. Teta, Vice President & General Counsel of American GreenFuels and Kolmar Americas. "Connecticut residents can now know that they can make a difference to our environment because certified biodiesel from American GreenFuels, when sold within Connecticut, provides greenhouse gas emission savings of 78% to 93% as compared with the ultra low sulfur heating oil made from traditional fossil fuels. Our biodiesel plant has only been in operation since 2013, and during that time, has made great progress in expanding its capacity and quality standards. Now with the help of Connecticut consumers, we can all work towards improving our environment."

Most importantly to consumers ? including homeowners, building managers, office parks and more ? biodiesel is compatible with most heating oil systems; in fact, biodiesel burns cleaner than conventional heating oil. Certified biodiesel produced by American GreenFuels is certified to:

The more consumers request biodiesel from their local heating oil retailer, the more Connecticut can reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. To learn more about certified biodiesel produced by American GreenFuels, please visit: www.AmericanGreenFuelsCT.com.
