PORTLAND, Ore., Dec. 18, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- SalesFirst Recruiting is proud to share information about a seasonal class the company's founder and CEO, Adam Morris, offers through the Good Neighbor Center.
The Good Neighbor Center provides support to families facing homelessness in the Portland area by offering them with a safe place to sleep and nutritious food each day in the short-term, and long-term support that fosters self-sufficiency. To aid in their efforts, Morris volunteers to teach a seasonal class, The Guide to Authentic Interviewing, to Good Neighbor Center clients. The most-recent session took place on December 3rd, and will be available again this Spring.
"The idea behind it, is that so many people think you're supposed to say what people want to hear in an interview," said Morris, "But, that can result in disaster. The idea is to be authentic, human, and up front about your strengths and weaknesses, so when you get hired, you get hired by the right company for who you really are."
According to a 2017 report released by Oregon Housing and Community, statewide homelessness grew by 6% last year. The goal of The Guide to Authentic Interviewing is to help reduce that number by providing Good Neighbor Center clients with a guide that helps them find the right job for them ? a job that they will thrive in for the long-term, by helping them realize the value in their unique story.
"One of our clients has an extensive criminal background in the not so distant past. The idea of interviewing for a job... knowing they would have to talk about their background in some capacity, filled them with dread," shared The Good Neighbor Center's Self-Sufficiency Advocate, Allie Alexander, "Adam taught this client how to own their story and take responsibility for their past while learning how to play on their strengths and really let them shine. I think this was a huge relief for this client, and it totally shifted their perception on how they could approach interviewing."
Alexander also shared that the client has been gainfully employed for five months.
