Money Doctor Neil "Doc" Gallagher Brings Thrills and Chills to Dallas/Ft. Worth

DALLAS, Dec. 17, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Money Doctor Neil Gallagher, founder, president, and CEO of Gallagher Financial Group Inc., as well as successful entrepreneur, investment counselor, and financial retirement planning specialist, says that people should join him and other "Polar Bear" members for an icy and exciting plunge at the outdoor (unheated) pool at Lifetime Fitness at Colleyville 8:00 A.M. January 1st, 2019.

"It's a shocking, sensational way to start the new year," explains Gallagher. The financial guru was a lifeguard during his college years in Rhode Island, plunging into the cold Atlantic Ocean many times where, even in August, the water was frigid and numbing. On January 1st of each year, the Polar Bears of Rhode Island would gather at the beaches of Narraganset and Scarborough to wade, then plunge into the icy waves.

"There are several reasons I still do this," elaborates Gallagher, "First, for me, is that it is nostalgic. Second, the legendary Harvard Philosopher William James said that doing one positive action everyday that is difficult is the best way to build discipline. Plunging into icy water builds discipline, that is for sure. I do it every day."

The activity also has several health benefits. The shock of cold water is a catharsis for body and brain. The sudden and drastic change in temperature has the possibility of boosting one's immune system. In a study, scientists from the Czech Republic immersed willing subjects into cold water for an hour, three times a week, and monitored their physiology. They found significant increases in white blood cell counts and several other factors relating to the immune system. This was attributed to cold water being a mild stressor, which activates the immune system and gives it some practice.

The activity also brings an "all-natural high" that swimmers get when they swim in cold water. It can be described as a feeling of wellbeing that's so encompassing that it becomes addictive. The cause? Endorphins. These are the body's natural pain killers, and in the case of a cold dip, it uses them to take the sting away from your skin. If you think that sounds dangerously close to the pain/pleasure barrier then you are probably right. The two other primary causes for endorphin release are pain and orgasm.

Neil Gallagher has worked in the financial field for more than two decades, managing over one billion in assets and serving over one thousand clients world-wide. In addition, he also hosts weekly radio programs covering financial communication, the psychology of investing, wealth creation, family enrichment, and the importance of estate planning. He was recently awarded the Best of Los Angeles Award - "Best Financial Planner - 2018", according to Aurora DeRose, award coordinator for the Best of Los Angeles Award community.

"Everyone that can come to this event should make the drive," concludes Gallagher, "The benefits definitely outweigh the negatives, and guests may even have the chance to establish a new habit."
