Steve's Skate at Nathan Phillips Square - December 15, 12:00 am to 7:26 pm in support of the Alzheimer Society of Toronto

TORONTO, Dec. 14, 2018 /CNW/ - Steve McNeil is lacing up his skates to help the Alzheimer Society of Toronto meet the growing demand for programs and services for local residents affected by Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.

For a seventh consecutive year, McNeil returns to Nathan Phillips Square on Friday, December 15 to skate for 19 hours and 26 minutes to raise much-needed funds that will provide resources, support, information and education to those living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias and their care partners.

Why the unusual time? McNeil's mom, Eunice, was born December 15, 1926, and lived 15 years with Alzheimer's disease before it claimed her life.      

Says McNeil, "I love to skate and it's my way of raising money and honour my mother's memory at the same time. It's my way of getting people out in the community and talk about Alzheimer's that affects so many other moms out there."  

McNeil hopes to raise $19,260. To date, his "skate-a-thon" has contributed $30,000 to local programs and services available through the Alzheimer Society of Toronto.
