NuEyes Technologies Partners With Pico Interactive for Next Generation of Wearables for the Visually Impaired

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Dec. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- In a partnership that will change the lives of millions of people, NuEyes, a pioneer in the field of low-vision technology, and Pico Interactive, maker of innovative VR solutions, today announced the launch of an all-in-one virtual reality device that can re-open the wearer's eyes to a world they believed forever lost due to failing sight. Thanks to the pairing of NuEyes' proprietary software with Pico Interactive's all-in-one Virtual Reality headset, people with macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinitis pigmentosa and other vision conditions will once again be able to read, watch movies, see loved ones' faces and be provided a better quality of life.

'Having a wearable device that offers a wide field of view, is extremely easy to use and comfortable to wear is a big step forward. The latest wearable device from NuEyes will not disappoint.' - Wayne Heidle, director of community relations and assistant professor - technologist for Marshall B. Ketchum University

"I am always pleased to see new innovation for the visually impaired," said Wayne Heidle, director of community relations and assistant professor ? technologist for Marshall B. Ketchum University. "Having a wearable device that offers a wide field of view, is extremely easy to use, and comfortable to wear is a big step forward. The latest wearable device from NuEyes will not disappoint."

"At NuEyes, we are extremely passionate about bringing the right innovation to market to help the visually impaired. Partnering with Pico Interactive was the clear choice for the next generation of 'Easy' products," said Mark Greget, founder/CEO NuEyes.

According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 285 million people across the globe suffer from some sort of vision impairment. Early age-related macular degeneration affects an estimated eight million Americans, of which more than one million will develop advanced age-related macular degeneration within the next five years. Technological innovation in visual aids has been stagnant over the last 40 years. While devices exist that can show written materials' type on a larger screen for easier readability, they lack portability and are useless for recognizing faces at a party or watching a sporting event.

The NuEyes e2 delivers unparalleled clarity with a 3K display (1440 x 1600 screen resolution at 90hz refresh rate), 101-degree field of view, HD camera and QUALCOMM 835 snapdragon processor. Utilizing the high-definition camera, NuEyes has optimized its functionality and autofocus, which offers the consumer true color visualization and powerful magnification up to 18x. The NuEyes software will also offer three contrast settings, optical character recognition/text-to-speech, brightness settings as well as an easy three-button configuration for convenience, flexibility and ease of use.

"We are thrilled to work with NuEyes' innovative technology and serve the low-vision market. We're inspired by NuEyes' work and excited to help make a positive impact on people's lives," said Will Winston, partnerships manager at Pico Interactive.

The NuEyes e2 will be available for pre-sale beginning on Dec. 17 at an unprecedented 50 percent discount for 30 days only. Shipping in Q1 of 2019, the NuEyes e2 will retail for just around $2,995 and during the holiday pre-sale will be available for only $1,499.
