Medically-Managed Detox Facility Offers Hope in Wake of Opioid Epidemic

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 15, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- With the opioid epidemic and substance abuse on the rise, Freedom Detox is making an impact by helping people safely, and comfortably, come off drugs and alcohol in a controlled, private, medical setting. "Many people don't understand the person they could be in absence of daily drug and alcohol use. At Freedom, we give people a chance to experience that, so they can make a new choice." That's founder Waylon Hinson, who struggled many times to find a bed for friend's years ago, and for himself. "I always thought hey I'm accomplishing things in life, I'm making progress. One day I'll wake up and find enough momentum to break this cycle." For Waylon, that day never came until a stay in the emergency room led a doctor to him who asked a different question. "I'd been in the ER many times due to the way I was living my life. The doctors always asked if I thought I had a problem, and I always said that I did. That last doctor asked if I wanted to get some help. As crazy as that sounds, I'd never considered going to treatment until that morning."

The detox center Waylon went to that day has long since closed, while the demand for services has increased tremendously. "You can't find a bed. Even for people wanting to get help today, it's difficult to find a place to go for detox."

Waylon says the process to open Freedom Detox was not easy. "We worked on this center for years to navigate the system and make the stars align. We're incredibly proud of what we're doing. We save, and change lives every day." Freedom Detox is North Carolina's first and only standalone private pay, private insurance detox center, located just outside of Charlotte, NC.

"There's a huge need for this, but many people don't know we're here yet. People don't understand how hard it is to quit using drugs and alcohol. The withdrawal period and symptoms accompanying it can easily drive someone back to use to relieve the pain, or to avoid attempting to stop altogether. This is coupled with the fact that quitting some drugs, such as benzodiazepines, which people use to alleviate anxiety, or alcohol, can literally kill you. So, it's not just incredibly hard, it can also be deadly."

Waylon says that many come to detox and go on to continued treatment after. "Detox is a huge step, but if we don't find and resolve the reasons why we abused drugs and alcohol in the first place, it's difficult to fully recover.

When we search for the reasons we sought to escape our lives through substance abuse, and work to overcome those, we can realize a life that we no longer want to escape but want to be a part of. You can do it, you are worth it. Make the call today and move forward." Freedom Detox can be reached at 800-475-2312. Find out more at freedomdetoxnc.com.
