COLUMBIA, Md., Nov. 15, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Maxim Healthcare Services Chief Medical Officer John Langley, M.D., has been elected to chair the American Academy of Pediatrics' (AAP) Section on Home Care (SOHC).

In this role, Dr. Langley will lead the SOHC in its efforts to advocate on behalf of patients and families receiving in-home care, educate clinicians on guidelines and policies, and publish best practices for these services. Dr. Langley has previously held a variety of leadership roles within the AAP, serving as president, vice president, and secretary of the South Carolina chapter. Last year, he was awarded the chapter's Career Achievement Award.

"Dr. Langley's commitment to caring for pediatric patients is unmatched so it's no surprise to any of us that he has been appointed to this role," said Kellie Lanier, senior vice president of clinical operations at Maxim. "We are very proud that 'Doc,' as we affectionately call him, will represent our organization, industry and, most importantly, our patients in such a profound way."

With more than 40 years of clinical experience, Dr. Langley is responsible for overseeing Maxim's efforts to ensure the organization delivers the highest level of service to all patients. He began his career on the faculty in the Department of Pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina before establishing a private pediatrics practice where he served as senior managing partner for more than 24 years. Prior to joining Maxim in 2009, he served as chief medical officer of East Cooper Regional Medical Center in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

Dr. Langley earned a bachelor's degree from Princeton University and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Virginia. He completed a pediatric internship and residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a fellowship in ambulatory pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina.
