Fodor's Travel 2019 "Go" & "No" Lists Highlight the Weird, Wonderful - and Worrying

NEW YORK, Nov. 14, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Travel is more than movement, greater than sightseeing. It opens our minds and keeps us alive ? through the good and the bad.

The transformative power of travel is the main theme of the 2019 Go List and No List unveiled today by Fodor's Travel, the leading name in travel recommendations for over 80 years.

Together, the lists provide comprehensive expert travel guidance for 2019, highlighting can't-miss spots that should be on every traveler's radar while identifying places to skip in the upcoming year.

"The beauty of the world is immeasurable, while its disasters teach us powerful lessons about nature and about ourselves," said Jeremy Tarr, Editorial Director of Fodors.com. "This year's lists celebrate travel's ethos of curiosity, open-mindedness and wonder that makes us alive and in touch with our world."

Both of this year's lists were assembled using the same rigorous process as previous years, with the Fodor's editorial team beginning with an initial list of hundreds of global and domestic nominees, which?after oftentimes fierce debate?they narrowed down to the final Go and No lists.

The Go List: 52 Reasons To Get Going

This year's Go List includes destinations to suit every taste, trip length and budget ? from the natural peaks of Bears Ears National Monument to the manmade peaks of Kuala Lumpur; from the bustling metropolis of Lagos, Nigeria, to the quiet refuge of Japan's Seto Inland Sea. This year, Fodor's editors paid special attention to those destinations recovering from the hardship of hurricanes: Puerto Rico, Key West, and St. Martin.

Last year, Fodor's editors expanded the Go List to 52 destinations from its traditional list of 25 destinations. The change proved so popular with the Fodor's audience that Fodor's editors have made the change permanent, meaning the 2019 Go List again comprises 52 destinations ? one for each week of the year.

To fuel travelers' wanderlust throughout the year, one Go List destination will be featured on Fodors.com each week of 2019 with a package including travel articles, listicles, hotel reviews, and a custom-designed travel poster for each place drawn by Nashville-based illustrator Lauren Cierzan.

The No List: Starting The Conversation ? Not The Final World

The highly cited Fodor's Travel No List enters its third year of surfacing destinations that should be avoided due to political, environmental, or social concerns. Seven locations make up this year's 2019 No List, including Acapulco, Ibiza, and Thailand's Maya Beach.

"The editors of Fodor's Travel recognize that the reasoning for inclusion on the No List is steeped in our own understanding and cultural relevance," Tarr said. "We use travel as a means to broaden our minds and expand our humanity, and use our No List findings as a means to foster dialogue as to how things can be improved in places where the current situation is grim."

Subsets of this year's No List include "Places That Don't Want You To Visit," which includes destinations that are overwhelmed by their own tourism industry and hoping tourists stay away, and "Places That Give Us Pause," a new subset of five destinations that came very close to making the 2019 No List, including China and Brazil.
