5 Perry Street Announces Summer 2019 Launch of Design-Focused Beachfront Boutique Hotel

CAPE MAY, N.J., Nov. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- 5 Perry Street announces the launch of a renovated boutique hotel at this iconic National Historic Landmark property on the beachfront in Victorian Cape May, America's first seaside resort, scheduled to open Summer 2019.

Facing the beach, the hotel comprises eleven luxury suites that boast panoramic ocean and sunset views where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Delaware Bay, as well as indoor and outdoor entertainment space for creative events and special occasions of up to 75 guests, with additional capacity available.

Nine king-sized luxury suites and two queen suites will each feature spa bathrooms and well-appointed kitchenettes. Second floor rooms have private porches facing the ocean, while third floor rooms are graced with unparalleled views of the boardwalk and beach, from Convention Hall to the Cove. The suites pair Victorian charm with modern amenities, allowing guests to luxuriate and unwind in the privacy of their spacious and elegant accommodations, engage in the hotel's entertainment spaces or simply enjoy the proximity to the beach and Cape May's preeminent restaurant scene.

The expansive parlor, wrap-around porches and garden grill will serve as the main entertainment spaces and create an ideal atmosphere for an intimate wedding reception, reunion or rehearsal dinner. "We envision a modern version of a Victorian salon, where creativity flourishes and guests feel right at home," says Cynthia Mullock, Founder and CEO of 5 Perry Street. The event schedule will include live music, book signings, celebrity chef dining events and a rotating art gallery with frequent exhibits.

"This community still maintains the nostalgia of past elegance and whimsical romance," Carolyn Pitts wrote in her 1974 nomination for the Cape May Historic District's entry on the National Register of Historic Places, which led to its National Historic Landmark status. "The resort retains those qualities of an era most closely associated with Southern hospitality and charm, gracious living and a century that had supreme confidence in itself."

5 Perry Street will maintain that same air of nostalgia and whimsicality in its finishes. "Our plans employ imaginative design to spark a sense of wonder and evoke the Gilded Age of the hotel's construction, with a simplicity as fresh as the sea breeze," says Cynthia Mullock. "Think bespoke wallpaper, mosaic tiles and refinished hardwood floors combined with period pieces, custom-crafted furniture and fixtures made from vintage-1800s lumber, copper and other materials we've salvaged." Many original fixtures and elements such as louvered doors, light fixtures, floors, bricks and clawfoot tubs are being preserved.

Cynthia Mullock grew up in the hospitality business in Cape May, living and working in her family's bed and breakfast and golf course, Cape May National Golf Club. As an award-winning lawyer in New York, she was named a Rising Star by the New York Law Journal in 2015 and advises technology, financial services and start-up companies on growth strategies, financing and regulatory matters. Previously, she worked in private practice at Sullivan & Cromwell, served as Vice President and Counsel at Deutsche Bank and was a Founding Partner and General Counsel of Snowden Lane Partners, a wealth management company with over $4 billion in client assets. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in English and Political Science and received her law degree from Columbia Law School and MBA from Columbia Business School. She has served as a member of the Board of Directors of Volunteers of Legal Service since 2015.

The Mullock family has been actively committed to historic preservation in Cape May for nearly forty years and is responsible for the preservation, restoration and management of several historic properties in town. Cynthia's parents Robert and Linda Mullock moved to Cape May in 1980 and restored the Victorian Rose bed and breakfast on Columbia Avenue, shortly after the city was designated a National Historic Landmark. Their recent restoration of the Chalfonte Hotel received the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce Historic Preservation Award in 2016. Cynthia's brother Zack serves on Cape May's Historic Preservation Commission, is a Council Member Elect for the City of Cape May and has restored historic residences in the city with his wife Justine. Their brother, Dillon, is the Operations Manager of the Chalfonte Hotel and is active on the Zoning Board and Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Cape May, while their sister, Ellie, participated in the Chalfonte's restoration and serves as an indispensable advisor for marketing and social media for 5 Perry Street.
