Ascend Foundation Reinforces Commitment to Houston Asian Community Residents Impacted by 2017's Hurricane Harvey

HOUSTON, Oct. 31, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Ascend Foundation, in conjunction with Ascend Chapters nationwide, raised funds and brings continued visibility to the needs of Houston's Asian community residents that were impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Ascend Foundation presented Rebuilding Together Houston and The Alliance funds to support their Houston rebuilding efforts. Both organizations were showcased at Ascend's Houston Chapter Inspiring Across Generations (IAG) Conference, a gathering of Ascend corporate and community partners for a day of leadership, mentorship and relationship development programs, held on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the JW Marriott in Downtown Houston.

Immediately after Hurricane Harvey, Ascend began online and leadership campaigns to generate support for the Houston Chapter's hurricane relief efforts. The Houston Chapter chose to team with two highly respected charitable organizations: Rebuilding Together Houston, and The Alliance, in identifying qualified Pan-Asian families needing recovery assistance. For 36 years, Rebuilding Together Houston has restored hope and revitalized neighborhoods by repairing homes at no cost for low-income elderly homeowners. The Alliance works to create opportunities for refugees, immigrants, and underserved residents to achieve their goals for self-sufficiency and improve their quality of life. Shern-Min Chow, Anchor at KHOU, emceed the Luncheon program at the IAG where Linda Luong, President of Ascend Houston Chapter, presented the checks to Christine Holland, CEO of Rebuilding Together Houston, and AP Vo, of The Alliance.

"Just a week before the disaster hit, Ascend hosted over 2,000+ people at our National Convention in Houston. In addition to the immediate efforts our Houston members initiated, we wanted to be a catalyst to creating sustained support for Hurricane survivors.  The efforts of Ascend leaders, members and supporters nationwide for the survivors are a part of Ascend Foundation's and Ascend's overall mission to support and empower the Pan-Asian community across North America. We're so proud of the Houston chapter and the leadership they've demonstrated to their local community," said Anna W. Mok, Executive Vice President, Ascend and Ascend Foundation.

"Thanks to the generosity and joint effort of Ascend leaders and friends nationwide, a significant amount was raised for the Pan-Asian community. The funds raised are a part of an on-going effort to support the victims during the aftermath of Harvey," said Julie Ho, Board Member and former President, Ascend Houston Chapter.
