Susan Lucas-Conwell, CSIRO US, and Andy Steen, Avaya, Join Women in Sports Tech (WiST) Board of Directors


SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 23, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Marilou McFarlane, founder of Women in Sports Tech, Inc. announced an exciting addition of two new board members to the team of executives and entrepreneurs committed to changing the gender ratio in the growing business of sports technology and innovation. Susan Lucas-Conwell, Executive Vice President at CSIRO US, Australia's pre-eminent national science organization, has joined the board along with Andy Steen, head of customer experience marketing at Avaya.

Lucas-Conwell is a Silicon Valley innovation executive and independent board director. She is currently head of CSIRO US's innovation center and the former CEO of SVForum and The Great Place to Work Institute. Passionate about sports and technology, Lucas-Conwell is a former college athlete with four former collegiate athlete daughters and a 2020 Olympic hopeful.

Steen is based in the Bay Area and chartered with delivering strategic, high impact, integrated marketing and communication programs. She leads the Sports and Entertainment Marketing Team at Avaya creating a unified story to promote Avaya's presence in over 100 sports venues. Steen is a regular blogger for Sports Tech.

Founded in 2017 by sports tech executive and veteran startup leader Marilou McFarlane, WiST is a not-for-profit organization that drives growth opportunities for women at all stages of their careers in the sports tech innovation landscape. Key initiatives include professional opportunities via WiST Fellowships for students and a shared jobs portal with SportTechie along with role-modelling with the Change the Ratio podcast series.

Last Spring, WiST announced its first three Fellowships awarded for the summer of 2018 with plans to offer more fellowships each year. The WiST community is comprised of business executives, athletes and sports experts across all sectors and funds from donations and grants.
