Insurance Industry & Calgary Chamber of Commerce launch tool to prepare small businesses for disasters

CALGARY, Oct. 18, 2018 /CNW/ - Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) launched a new, one-of-a-kind tool to help businesses prepare for natural disasters.

Insurance Bureau of Canada (CNW Group/Insurance Bureau of Canada)

Business owners can take a free diagnostic survey that will assess their level of preparedness and provide recommendations for improvements. The online resource also includes an opportunity for chambers of commerce to build two resources to support their local communities: a business continuity handbook and an emergency business contact database.

"Small and medium-sized businesses are the backbone of our community and their ability to recover from a disaster directly impacts local, provincial and national economies. We're proud to partner with the Calgary Chamber of Commerce on this innovative tool to help businesses prepare," said Celyeste Power, Vice-President (Acting), Western. "These online tools will help businesses assess their risk exposure and detail the role that insurance plays in preparing for and recovering from a disaster. It's our hope that the information will lead to decisions that keep businesses operating after a crisis."

Supported by IBC, these tools build on the experiences and knowledge that the Calgary Chamber of Commerce and the Calgary Emergency Management Agency garnered from the June 2013 floods in southern Alberta.

The tools can be found at IBC.DiagnosticRocket.com.
