Death of an inmate and lockdown at Drummond Institution
DRUMMONDVILLE, QC, July 31, 2018 /CNW/ - On July 29, 2018, Jonathan Payeur, an inmate from Drummond Institution died while in our custody.
At the time of his death, Mr. Jonathan Payeur, 32 years old, had been serving a third federal sentence of 3 years and 1 month for criminal harassment, Failure to comply with probation order, Possession of Schedule II/VII Substances for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Schedule I/II Substances for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Schedule I/II Substances for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Schedule IV Substances for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of a Weapon Contrary to Prohibition, Possession of an unauthorized firearm and Theft since August 11, 2017.
The inmate's next of kin have been notified of his death.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances and contact the police and the coroner if required.
Note that a lockdown has been put in place at the Institution to enable staff members to conduct an exceptional search.
The search was ordered to ensure the safety and security of the institution, its staff and inmates. Visits have been suspended until the search is completed. Normal operations will resume as soon as it is considered safe to do so.
