Fatal Crash in Gatineau Park
OTTAWA, May 30, 2018 /CNW/ - On May 29th shortly before midnight, first responders were dispatched to a single motor vehicle accident on Champlain Parkway near Huron lookout in the Gatineau Park. The two occupants of the vehicle, a woman and a man in their early twenties were unresponsive and pronounced dead shortly after at scene. Police is not releasing the names of the two victims at this time as the families are still being notified.
The RCMP is investigating the specific circumstances of the collision, but speed is likely a contributing factor. To facilitate the work of first responders at scene, we ask the public to avoid the area until further notice. Anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP National Division Operational Communications Centre at 613-952-4200.
The RCMP is reminding motorists that the speed limit in Gatineau Park is 60 km/h. We also encourage motorists to be very cautious and vigilant, especially at night, as parkways can be dangerous, due to the winding configuration, weather, but also because of the many animals that may be out of the woods looking for food.
