UH Law Center's Rosenberg Lecture will focus on nation's evolving immigration policy
HOUSTON, March 6, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A leading authority on immigration law will explore the future of the nation's immigration policy as the featured speaker of the annual Yale L. Rosenberg Memorial Lecture at the University of Houston Law Center on March 8.
Professor Gabriel "Jack" Chin of the UC Davis School of Law will speak on the topic: "Still a Nation of Immigrants? Rethinking Immigration Policy in the Modern Era." Commentary from three UH professors and a discussion with Chin will follow the lecture.
Chin, the Edward L. Barrett Jr. Chair of Law, Martin Luther King Jr. Professor of Law, and director of clinical Legal Education at UC Davis, teaches in the areas of criminal law, criminal procedure, and race and the law, in addition to immigration law. His work has been cited in three cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and his scholarship published in numerous law reviews and journals. He and his students have worked on behalf of minority civil rights, tried felony cases and argued criminal appeals.
Commentary will be provided by Clinical Associate Professor Geoffrey Hoffman, director of the Law Center's Immigration Clinic, Jeronimo Cortina, of the UH College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and Pamela Quiroz, also of the UH College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and director of the UH Center for Mexican American Studies. Law Center Dean Leonard M. Baynes will moderate the panel discussion.
The annual lecture is sponsored by the Yale L. Rosenberg Memorial Fund in honor of the professor who taught at the law school for 29 years. The lecture series and a student writing award were established by the late Professor Irene Merker Rosenberg, to honor her beloved husband and partner in scholarship, by bringing distinguished speakers to the Law Center and by recognizing excellence among students.
