'Money Matters' Conference Focuses on Protecting Senior Citizens


HARRISBURG, Pa., Nov. 6, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Secretary of Banking and Securities Robin L. Wiessmann today announced that Department of Banking and Securities staff will participate in "Money Matters," a noncommercial consumer protection conference that will take place November 9, 2017, from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the Center at Beaver Valley Mall in Monaca.

The conference will offer information on how senior citizens, their families, caregivers, and legal and financial professionals can protect assets and personal information from financial fraud. Those in attendance can take part in the presentation "Schemes, Scams, and Flim Flams" and Investment Fraud Bingo. The department, along with the Department of Aging, will co-present, "Preventing Elder Financial Fraud: It Takes a Village."

"Money Matters" in Beaver County is part of the Campaign for Wise and Safe Investing, a collaboration among the Department of Banking and Securities, the AARP Foundation, the Investor Protection Trust, and AARP Pennsylvania. The event is being hosted by the Beaver County Collaborative Action Network.

"Protecting senior citizens from elder financial abuse is one of Governor's Wolf's top priorities, and we are pleased that so many dedicated community organizations are collaborating to present 'Money Matters," Secretary Wiessmann said. "We are continuing to work with public and private partners to help build a network of protection for Pennsylvania's senior citizens, through program such as the Elder Investment Fraud and Financial Exploitation Program (EIFFE) and Senior$afe."
