MINNEAPOLIS, MN --(Marketwired - April 26, 2016) - Since Prince died last week, fans from Minneapolis and around the world have been mourning his passing and celebrating his life with visits to his home/studios and First Avenue, where dance parties for several nights helped fans to cope with the loss of this artist, international celebrity and our neighbor. Prince put Minneapolis on the map for many people around the globe. Now, Meet Minneapolis is hoping to help put the places Prince frequented on the map for visitors seeking to pay their respects and celebrate his life here with Prince's Minneapolis, an online guide to the homes, music venues and other significant spots Prince frequented throughout his life in Minneapolis.
Prince has always attracted interest to and in Minneapolis; since before the days of the release of his first film, "Purple Rain," to the dance parties he regularly held at his studio and home, Paisley Park, visitors have come looking and hoping to see "The Purple One" himself. Often, they were lucky enough to find him hosting impromptu concerts and dance parties around town or hopping on stage and playing with other musicians at clubs like the Dakota, Bunkers and even at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres as recently as March when he joined Mick Sterling's show for a jam.
Now, visitors and mourners will continue to seek out Prince in the places he lived, worked and performed with a different purpose. Some of the places no longer exist or have become other things. But each spot has a place in the hearts of the people who loved Prince.
During a 1999 interview with Larry King, Prince said, "Minneapolis always been da bomb, you don't have to go outside of that." Prince loved his hometown and was proud to live here throughout his career.
Visit http://www.minneapolis.org/princes-minneapolis/ for a list of places throughout Minneapolis, from Prince's birthplace and childhood homes to sites throughout his career and "Purple Rain" locations. A Google map on the site will help visitors locate each highlight with a purple star to plan their pilgrimages to his beloved hometown of Minneapolis. Finally, the site allows fans and visitors to comment about these and other spots that have significance for fans of Minneapolis' most famous citizen.
