America's Physician Groups Leads Physician Effort to Strengthen and Improve Medicare Advantage

WASHINGTON, March 15, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- America's Physician Groups and 280 medical groups and independent practice associations sent a letter today to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Seema Verma in response to the CY2020 Medicare Advantage Advance (MA) Notice and Call Letter. In the letter, the physician groups expressed strong support for the MA program.

"Physicians support MA because it is a critical component in transforming our nation's health care system from volume to value-based," the letter reads. "MA not only offers beneficiaries additional benefits, including prescription drug coverage, but it also provides physicians additional tools to better coordinate care and manage the health of entire populations."

Don Crane, President and CEO of America's Physician Groups commented, "This letter underscores physician support for MA and the role it plays in the value movement, and highlights steps CMS should take ? including affording advanced APM credit to qualifying MA providers ? to strengthen and improve the program."

The letter highlights issues in MA that physicians know are important including the expansion of supplemental benefits and promoting value in MA. The letter concludes with a request to afford equal credit to providers taking risk in MA by allowing those qualified providers to apply for the five percent advanced APM bonus as a standalone threshold.
