Kaplan Arbitration Panel Releases Decision on Compensation for Ontario Physicians

Ontario Medical Association (CNW Group/Ontario Medical Association)

TORONTO, Feb. 19, 2019 /CNW/ - We welcome the arbitration panel's decision. This Binding Arbitration award brings a long and difficult period that began in 2015 under the Liberal government to an end and opens the door to a new, more positive relationship with the provincial government.

While this award does not provide our members - all of the 31,500 practicing physicians in Ontario - with everything we wanted, it does provide for compensation increases, an elimination of payment discounts imposed by the previous government, and no hard cap to the Physician Services Budget. In this, the award provides stability and predictability for the future so that physicians can continue to deliver high-quality health care to all Ontarians. Ultimately, it is Ontario patients that will benefit the most.

We look forward to working with the provincial government, under the leadership of Minister Elliott and Premier Ford, to transform Ontario's health care system and end hallway health care. Our priority is the health and well-being of Ontarians. Our doctors care for more than 300,000 patients every day, and they have been and remain committed to delivering quality health care across the province.

We thank Mr. Kaplan, the other members of the arbitration panel, and Minister Elliott and Ministry staff for their hard work through this lengthy process.
