Minister Wilkinson visits students at the BC Institute of Technology as a part of his #OceansCampus Tour

VANCOUVER, Feb. 15, 2019 /CNW/ - Students from coast to coast to coast are passionate about protecting our oceans, lakes and waterways and ensuring that there are good jobs for their future.

Minister Wilkinson visits students at the BC Institute of Technology as a part of his #OceansCampus Tour (CNW Group/Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Pacific Region)

As the second stop on his #OceansCampus Tour, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson visited the BC Institute of Technology's Burnaby campus. As a part of the visit, he hosted an interactive discussion with students that focused on Canada's plan for protecting our oceans and restoring Wild Pacific Salmon. He also toured BCIT's living laboratory at Guichon Creek, where he learned about the salmon enhancement program that students are leading.

The Creek transects the east side of BCIT's Burnaby Campus and is a fish bearing stream at its south end. The restoration of this creek also provides a Living Lab opportunity for students in the Fish, Wildlife and Recreation program and Ecological Restoration programs.

The Minister looks forward to visiting campuses across British Columbia and Canada to learn more about the important research and technology that is being developed to protect our oceans, fish habitat and marine mammals.
