INCubatoredu Salutes Roslyn Public School Mentors During National Mentoring Month

BARRINGTON, Ill., Jan. 24, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Mentoring Month campaign was created to "focus national attention on the need for mentors to work together to ensure a positive outcome for young people." This goal is epitomized by the INCubatoredu entrepreneurship program for high school students, and particularly by Roslyn Public Schools, which currently has over 13 active mentors.  These mentors are utilized to cultivate the potential of the INCubatoredu students in business, build life skills and strengthen their communities.

The INCubatoredu curriculum provides a rigorous entrepreneurship program that challenges the students to work in teams to identify a problem they encounter in their everyday life, create a product or service to solve that problem and test market their concept.  Under the guidance and instruction of a certified teacher, a mentor is assigned to each student team and works with them throughout the year. At year-end, the teams present their business models to community leaders and compete for seed funding.

Mentor and entrepreneur, Adam Haber, brings his expertise in finance and commercial real estate to the classroom and has been struck by the experiential learning curriculum which allows the students to experience the highs and lows of building a business firsthand.

"I wish I had this class when I was in high school because it would've saved me a lot of money in my early career," said Haber. "This class shows students a cost-effective way to get to a product without burning through a lot of capital."

Mentor Elisa Frischling, a consultant and entrepreneur herself, is impressed with the overall skills the students are learning and using during the program.

"They need to think creatively, problem-solve, work as a team, sell ideas, present ideas and understand how to manage money," said Frischling. "These skills will be beneficial no matter what profession they choose."

The benefits of mentoring are not only for the students.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed mentoring these students and have enjoyed watching them think strategically and grow," Frischling said.  "I hope I have instilled a further passion for learning and thinking creatively."

The INCubatoredu program recognizes and thanks all Roslyn Public School mentors who are sharing their time and talents with these students and encouraging new goals and dreams.
