Williamette Leadership Academy Students Sock It to Homelessness

EUGENE, Ore., Jan. 19, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Students from Williamette Leadership Academy are participating in a friendly competition to gather the most sets of new socks to provide to the homeless community in the Eugene/Springfield area. On Thursday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. the school will open its doors to the public to help distribute socks and serve the homeless community.

This celebration is timed to coincide with the history-making celebration of National School Choice Week 2019, which will feature more than 40,000 school choice events across all 50 states.

"This event promotes leadership, which is the cornerstone of our school. It is an excellent opportunity for WLA cadets and the local community to give back and help out those in need after the holidays are over. We often forget that people are still in need of something simple like warm, dry feet during the cold months of January and February," said Maj. Kate Klontz, Willamette Leadership Academy Program Director.

The event is open to media and public.

As a nonpartisan, nonpolitical public awareness effort, National School Choice Week shines a positive spotlight on effective education options for students, families, and communities around the country.
