The Foundation for Global Sports Development Awards $781,000 in Grants to Charitable Organizations

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 18, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Foundation for Global Sports Development (GSD) ended their 2018 by awarding $781,000 in grants to 17 non-profit organizations. This brings GSD's 2018 total grant-giving amount to $1,981,092, with all funds supporting initiatives focused on youth sports and community wellness. Dr. Steven Ungerleider, executive board member for GSD, said, "This year's group of grant recipients is a collective of exceptional organizations, and the programs we are supporting reflect our commitment to improving the well-being of communities, particularly underserved communities."

In the course of its work with the Sister Survivors from the Larry Nassar abuse case, the foundation was introduced to new grant recipient Wayne County SAFE (WC SAFE). WC SAFE inspires healing and empowerment for those affected by sexual violence by providing free and immediate comprehensive services, promoting public awareness, and advancing social change. Kimberly Hurst, Executive Director for WC SAFE, expressed her thanks for the grant. "WC SAFE is extremely excited and appreciative of the grant from The Foundation for Global Sports Development. This is an amazing opportunity to strengthen and expand our presence in the community and better meet the needs of survivors of sexual violence."

"As we launch Courage First, our own program to prevent and end abuse in sport, we believe it is essential to also support organizations who have long been working in this field," said David Ulich, executive board member for GSD. "Wayne County SAFE is providing critical resources and much needed awareness about sexual violence to its community."
