THIS WEEK: 550 Events and Activities in Colorado to Raise Awareness About School Choice

DENVER, Jan. 18, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Thousands of Coloradans are celebrating how schools of all types are educating students this School Choice Week.

The Week will feature 550 events and activities across the Centennial State, including open house events at schools, school fairs, homeschool information sessions, and other celebrations. One of the largest events in the state will be a school fair planned for Friday, January 25, 2019 4:00 PM at the Space Foundation in Colorado Springs. In addition, a student civics day is planned in Denver at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at the Colorado State Capitol.

Nationwide, 40,549 events and activities are being organized to raise awareness during National School Choice Week (Jan. 20-26, 2019), and 10.8 million Americans are expected to participate. It will be the largest series of education-related events and activities in U.S. history.

In Colorado, there are many educational options, including traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, private schools, online learning, and homeschooling. Colorado students can attend tuition-free online public charter schools full-time.

On the local level, elected officials and community leaders are recognizing the importance of educational opportunity by officially recognizing the Week. The county of Mesa and the cities of Buena Vista and Windsor have issued proclamations recognizing School Choice Week in their community.

Celebrated since 2011, National School Choice Week is an independent public awareness effort. The Week is nonpartisan and nonpolitical, and it is not related to any legislative advocacy campaign.

"Mile High Academy celebrates National School Choice Week because every child deserves a chance at the best education for their individual needs. That means letting parents know about what's available to them in their area. Choice matters!" said Agape Hammond, director of marketing at Mile High Academy, an independent school serving 250 students in Highlands Ranch, Colorado.

"Colorado families have a variety of school choice options for their children's education, and National School Choice Week is the ideal time to start searching for a school that meets your child's needs," said National School Choice Week President Andrew Campanella.
