Aiden's wish to be Canada's prime minister will come true
Make-A-Wish recipient will enjoy VIP treatment during visit to Ottawa this week
OTTAWA, Dec. 10, 2018 /CNW/ - Aiden, 15, is a teenager with a passion for politics. When his heart condition made him eligible for a Make-A-Wish® experience, Aiden knew right away that he wanted to be the nation's leader.
Together with the assistance of the Prime Minister's Office, House of Commons of Canada, RCMP, Prime Minister's Protection Detail, Canadian Army, Canadian War Museum and Fairmont Château Laurier, Make-A-Wish has planned a trip for Aiden that will give him a chance to experience life as Canada's prime minister during his five-day visit to Ottawa starting today.
Aiden, who is visiting from London, Ont., will arrive with his family in Ottawa on Monday, Dec. 10, and will be greeted by the RCMP and the Prime Minister's Protection Detail at the airport. He will stay at the Fairmont Château Laurier and receive a formal prime minister's welcome from hotel staff and management.
On Tuesday Dec. 11, the RCMP and the Prime Minister's Protection Detail have arranged a full day of activities, including tours of the Tactical Protective Operations Facility, Rideau Hall, a visit to the Musical Ride Branch and stables, and the prime minister's aircraft.
On Wednesday Dec. 12, Aiden will spend the day on Parliament Hill, receive a special tour of Parliament and attend Question Period in the House of Commons where his name will be mentioned. Aiden will also hold his own news conference, attend a dinner and spend some time with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Finally, on Thursday Dec. 13, Aiden will spend a full day with the Canadian Army, shadowing the commander. Aiden will be outfitted with his own uniform and named honorary lieutenant colonel for the day. He will end his day with a visit to the Canadian War Museum and meeting with its CEO.
Much of Aiden's itinerary will be kept secret from him. Although he has a general idea of what he will be doing, Make-A-Wish has planned several unexpected surprises.
Aiden is very excited for this once-in-a-lifetime wish experience and the opportunity to live out his dream.
