New Initiative Elevates Women's Voices in Key U.S. National Security and Foreign Policy Areas

WASHINGTON, Dec. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- America Matters is pleased to announce the launch of Women Lead the Way. This women's empowerment initiative is aimed at placing women at the forefront of policy discussions and decisions, particularly in areas in which they are historically overlooked or excluded.

America Matters' CEO, retired Army Lt. Col. Samantha Nerove, announced the program's launch at the 2019 Women's Entrepreneurship Day (WED) Summit held at the United Nations' headquarters in New York City. Speaking at the Summit in November, Nerove said, "Countries that empower their women have peace and prosperity as their calling card."

The program will kick off with a focus on gender equity and national security. While women are directly affected by policies in these areas, female experts are underrepresented in the organizations and committees that shape and make those policies?Women Lead the Way aims to change that.

This is the second year CEO Nerove spoke at the WED Summit, joining over 40 other speakers who believe in the organization's mission to educate, empower, celebrate, and support women in business. Last year, Nerove announced a program aimed at stopping female genital mutilation in the United States. America Matters was an integral part of New Hampshire's 2018 anti-FGM legislation and continues to work with the 23 states without state laws criminalizing this horrific form of gender violence. Women Lead the Way is Nerove's next avenue in a lifetime pursuit to empower women.

"I can't think of better venue and community to announce our latest initiative. When we empower women, give them the resources and platforms to be leaders, our country and communities benefit. I am excited to take the positive energy from WED and officially launch Women Lead the Way," said Nerove.

Samantha Nerove is Founder/CEO of America Matters, a non-profit foundation that focuses on issues people care about not party or politics. She's a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel, paratrooper, and combat veteran.
