United for Families Coalition hosts a memorial event for the children taken by the Family and Dependency Courts of California

SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 3, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- On Monday, December 10, 2018 at 11 a.m. parents and family members will gather across from the Family Justice Center, 201 N. First Street, San Jose to create a Christmas ornament memorial dedicated to the children taken by the Family and Juvenile Courts of California. Parents and family members have created ornaments with the children's photos and information on them to display to bring attention to the government policy of removing children from parents as a form of punishment.

Many parents have not seen their children in the years since the courts have taken them. Some, like Alycia Mesiti, were murdered when the courts took her from her mother, and gave custody to her murderer, some, like Audrey Potts, committed suicide while her biological father was blocked from her life and had no power to intervene, some, like Jennifer Celaya's twin daughters, were shuffled from state run detention centers to foster care before being returned to her 14 months later. Many children lose a parent and often never see that parent again. All, who pass through the Family and Dependency Court have had their lives diminished or destroyed in some way.

The nonprofit family advocacy group Parental Rights.org estimates 2000 children are taken from parents every 3 days in the United States. This does not include non-citizen immigrant asylum seeker parents. Since Family Court became the $52 billion industry that it is, there has been a huge uptick in Custody and visitation being taken from responsible, loving, fit parents in order to maintain and influx in funds into the court systems.  Kaiser's ACE Study (adverse childhood experience), has determined that loss of a parent causes childhood trauma which results in emotional, psychological and physical damage that lasts a lifetime. Despite the science and date on childhood trauma, California Family and Dependency Courts continue to remove parents from children's lives, and children from their entire family daily. We believe this policy has got to stop.

Please join us for this event to visit our memorial to our lost children and shed light on the thousands of families whose children were taken by the California Courts.
