Quebec public inquiry commission's last hearings to open on reconciliation subject

VAL-D'OR, QC, Nov. 28, 2018 /CNW/ - The month of December will mark the end of public hearings for the Public Inquiry Commission on relations between Indigenous Peoples and certain public services in Québec. From December 5th to 14th, the last testimonies will be heard at the Pena-Dumont conference room at Val-d'Or airport.

During the first week of hearings, Commissioner Jacques Viens will receive actors from different backgrounds to discuss on subjects related to the theme of reconciliation.

During the second week, the calendar will mostly be filled up with the final plea from all official participants and the last testimonies of two public services.

However, the end of public hearings does not signify the end of the mandate. The evidence brought to Commissioner Viens will continue to be analysed in order to build the final report that will be submitted in September 2019.

Element of reflections

To open up on its final bloc of hearings, the Commission invited leaders who are recognized for their involvement to give their personal opinion on questions regarding the theme of reconciliation. Based on their professional and personal background, they will share their own observations to Commissioner Viens.

The objective is to allow a reflexion in order to enrich the Commission's works. Participants will share their point of view and will be invited to open up on solutions.

Michèle Rouleau, André Dudemaine, Mélissa Mollen-Dupuis, Alexis Wawanoloath and Manon Barbeau are among those who kindly accepted the invitation.
