Kativik Regional Government Employees Negotiation - Members of the union vote in favor of 6-day strike

KUUJJUAQ, QC, Nov. 27, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Members of the Kativik Regional Government Employees Union (KRGEU) voted Monday evening in a proportion of 93% in favor of six days of strike to use when deemed appropriate.

After three years of difficult negotiations, the 200 employees of the union affiliated to the Fédération des employées et employés de services publics (FEESP?CSN), decided that it was time to step up the means of pressure against an employer who refuses to hear reason.

"Bargaining has been slow from day 1. It is time to show our solidarity and our firm desire to come to a negotiated agreement. We have had more than enough of arguing with a management that does not want to hear anything. The Kativik Regional Government must take off their blinders now"

However, an agreement in principle was concluded on April 18, 2018, between the KRG Union and the KRG Management. However, in the weeks that followed, a dispute concerning retroactivity for employees that have left KRG came to the surface as well as the exclusion of an important letter of agreement, putting an end to the settlement.

Essential services

As the KRGEU is subject to the Essential Services Act, the union will have to negotiate the level of services to be maintained before being able to go on strike.

"We intend to act quickly, our members and the bargaining committee are angry and we are ready to act," concludes Mesher.
