Technologies to Optimize Encoding for Video Compression Available from Ocean Tomo Transactions

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 16, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- As the lines form for the Black Friday deals on the latest and greatest ultra-high definition 4k TVs, over the top services, TV everywhere streaming to an ever-growing collection of video-capable devices all reported in real time via user-generated content across a myriad of platforms, the dramatic growth of the video market will come into clear focus along with the true challenge of the content explosion. The growth in video-capable devices has put enormous strain on network bandwidth and storage. The rising popularity of multi-screen has further added to the strain on current network infrastructure.

Ocean Tomo Transactions has been retained to explore the divestiture of technologies to address these market challenges. The 29 assets, including both issued patents and applications with over 200 claims in the portfolio, relate to Adaptive Object Analysis, Machine Learning and Saliency Modeling. The portfolio presents a unique opportunity to acquire technology necessary to improve and extend the life of existing video codec performance without requiring costly new codecs, standards, or changes to infrastructure and workflows.

The Lyrical Labs SceneScan decision engine combines a trio of patented technologies and processes, anchored by its unique adaptive object analysis technology. John Jonson of Lyrical Labs explained that "not only have we broken through the bitrate/video quality trade-off, but also the performance ceiling of any modern CODEC, extending the effective and economic life of AVC/H.264 and future CODECs as well". He continues, "Unlike many patchwork solutions that are severely limited in application or overly complex, Lyrical Labs' technology becomes an integral part of a target encoder's processing without limiting or requiring workflow, infrastructure or device changes."

The patents in the Technologies to Optimize Encoding for Video Compression portfolio include both US granted patents and open applications as well as foreign assets in key jurisdictions outside the US, including Japan, Korea, Australia, Europe and China.

The portfolio will be of interest to both established and new players in the $1 billion market for video content delivery including both networks and video delivery equipment manufacturers as the patented technologies combine to create an ideal solution for an industry under intense pressure for solutions to support enhanced bandwidth and storage without costly investments in new infrastructure and workflows. The technology provides not only increased performance, but is also standards compliant, works across applications, and is portable to other codecs.
