Twicycle Receives a US Patent, Introduces Locking Mechanism For Front Cranks

MIAMI, Nov. 15, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Twicycle, a 2WD road bike that can be propelled by using either arm or leg cranks, was issued a US Patent No. US 10,112,679 B2 on Oct. 30, 2018. The bike features a chest pad that allows users to rest their upper body during cycling while the locking mechanism transforms this unique bike into a regular road bike.

The Invention relates to the type of two-wheel cycle where the propulsion to the rear wheel is achieved by the use of rider's legs/ feet while the secondary propulsion is achieved on the front wheel by a separate crank system operated by rider's arms and upper body. Both crank systems utilize independent chains to transfer force to the wheels.

In addition to enabling a rider to rest their upper body, the supplied chest pad provides a surface against which to pull the handlebars. The chest pad is unisex and can be adjusted to suit individual needs.

The patent was issued to Boyan Rista, the inventor of Twicycle who filed for the patent with no legal assistance.

The most recent addition to the Twicycle road bike is the Chainguard And Locking Clamp combo. The carbon-fiber/kevlar front crank chainguard acts in the same manner as a regular chain guard. The combined locking clamp allows for the front cranks to be locked in a stationary position akin to that of the handlebars on a standard road bike.

While Twicycle can be operated without the use of the Chainguard And Locking Clamp combo, the latest addition offers a way to transform it into a regular road bike for occasions where such a configuration is preferred. The optional add-on is available from Twicycle online store.

Twicycle is aimed at people who enjoy cycling, the outdoors and would like to work out their full body equally well including their arms, chest, and back. Previously unreleased videos of Twicycle production model ridden through the Italian, Swiss and Austrian Alps, German Bavaria, and Croatian coastline are available to social media news outlets.
