Join First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale for Advent and Christmas 2018 - Where Faith Comes Alive!


FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Nov. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Advent is an intentional time of anticipation for family, friends and the community as we prepare to receive the gift of God in the birth of Jesus. First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale warmly invites you to come and share in these experiences leading up to Christmas.

On Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 5:30 p.m., the Advent season will begin with Christmas Family Night, bringing the Christmas story to life! This joyous family-friendly event features Mary and Joseph and the birth of baby Jesus. Guests won't just hear about the birth of baby Jesus, they'll see, touch, smell and taste what life was like during this miraculous time!   

"Christmas Family Night is a wonderful opportunity to kick off the Advent season," said Cindy Vason, Director of the Children's Ministry at First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale.  "Your faith is sure to come alive this Christmas season with this one-of-a-kind, interactive event that appeals to adults and families with children of all ages."

In addition to Christmas Family Night, First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale has many other Advent observances planned, including the Because of Bethlehem Churchwide Advent Study, the much-anticipated Annual Christmas Concert and more festive celebrations!

Hanging of the Greens
December 2, 2018 at 5 p.m.

Join First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale along with a full Scottish Pipe and Drum band for this exciting service -- including the blessing of the newborns from the previous year. Guests will experience authentic Scottish music, Kilts and tartans, with the Children's and Youth Choirs participating.  Everyone is invited for wassail and refreshment following the service in the Fellowship Hall.

Because of Bethlehem Churchwide Advent Study 
On Wednesdays, December 5, 12, and 19 participants will gather for dinner from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with the Advent study and reflection to follow. Christmas begins what Easter celebrates. The child in the cradle became the King on the cross. Because of Bethlehem, we have a Savior in heaven. Register by November 28th by emailing Mona Petersen or calling (954) 598-9345. Study guides are available.

Annual Christmas Concert
December 16, 2018 at 4 p.m.

Experience the glorious music of Christmas presented by the Cathedral Choir and members of the Symphony of the Americas, with conductor Robin L. McEachern. Highlights will include music by Felix Mendelssohn, John Rutter, Dan Forrest, Randol Alan Bass, Robert Shaw's "Many Moods of Christmas," and the "Hallelujah" Chorus by G.F. Handel.

Christmas Eve Worship Services

5:00 p.m. ? Family Christmas Eve candlelight service with the Children's Choirs
6:30 p.m. ? Contemporary Christmas Eve candlelight worship in Fellowship Hall
8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. ? Traditional Christmas Eve candlelight services, with Communion and the Cathedral Choir (8 p.m.) and Kirk Singers and Kirk Singer Alumni (10 p.m.).
