PhyMed CEO Named Board Member of Center for Medical Interoperability

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Nov. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Marty Bonick, chief executive officer for PhyMed Healthcare Group, has joined the Center for Medical Interoperability Board.

"We are striving for plug-and-play interoperability in healthcare, meaning the technologies clinicians use to take care of people can seamlessly exchange information and be easily swapped out as needed, and nobody understands the need for that better than Marty," says Ed Cantwell, President and Chief Executive Officer for CMI. "He brings a valuable perspective to our efforts to accelerate the seamless exchange of information in healthcare."

Bonick brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in both for-profit and non-profit settings. Prior to joining PhyMed, one of the nation's leading provider of anesthesia services, Mr. Bonick was President of Division Operations at Community Health Systems (CHS), overseeing a $4.5 billion portfolio of 36 hospitals and their associated clinics, outpatient centers, ambulatory surgery centers and urgent care operations across six states.

He also served as CEO of Jewish Hospital and Senior Vice President of Operations for Jewish Hospital & St. Mary's Healthcare in Louisville, KY. He has also held various leadership positions at Ardent Health Services, including CEO of Oklahoma State University Medical Center and VP of Operations for Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, OK.

Formed in 2015, the Center for Medical Interoperability is a nonprofit research and development lab aimed at simplifying and advancing data sharing among medical technologies and systems. Working on behalf its health system members, the Center has built considerable momentum by aggregating a large coalition of vendors. Five interoperability testing events have demonstrated significant progress thus far. The certification of technology solutions will allow providers and their procurement arms to make informed decisions about their purchases and the ability of those devices and other modalities to interact in a seamless and trusted manner.

"Hospitals, physicians and payers don't always work together, but to truly change the trajectory of healthcare, we must find ways to effectively collaborate while keeping the patient at the center of our attention," says Bonick. "The CMI and its lab is a vital step in building a common direction for the industry, and I am delighted to be representing providers in advancing those efforts."
