The Semaine des entrepreneurs à l'école kicks off in Québec's 17 regions

QUÉBEC CITY, Nov. 12, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Throughout Québec, thousands of students from the elementary school to the university level will be visited by an entrepreneur from their community as part of the Semaine des entrepreneurs à l'école. From now until November 23, hundreds of free talks will help raise young people's awareness of the entrepreneurial spirit and encourage them to take action during this first part of the school year.

Back for a third consecutive year, the Semaine des entrepreneurs à l'école has been a clear success. In 2016, the pilot project brought together over 3 500 students and some 60 entrepreneurs in secondary schools located in five regions of the province. Last year, over 10 000 students throughout Québec were visited by an entrepreneur during the 350 talks given as part of the week's activities. This initiative is now being extended from elementary schools to university and will reach over 20 000 young people by November 23.

"These fantastic meetings enable young people to see some of the great things life has to offer and inspire them to carry out their own projects. In doing so, they engage in entrepreneurial experimentation in class, which is the second intervention lever of Education Through Entrepreneurial Spirit, a powerful pedagogical approach that has a significant impact on student development and the educational success of young people," explained Manon Théberge, President and Director General of OSEntreprendre.

"The Caisse wishes to raise awareness of the entrepreneurial culture among Québec's youth. This is why we created, in conjunction with the National Bank and Desjardins, the Semaine des entrepreneurs à l'école, which is intended for young people from elementary school to university," said Michèle Boisvert, Executive Vice-President for Business Outreach at the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec. "Students must be provided with models and shown that the entrepreneurial spirit is well within their reach. I am convinced that the paths taken by our various entrepreneurs will inspire many young people."

"As a speaker during the 2017 Semaine des entrepreneurs à l'école, I had the opportunity to give something back to young people. I visited my old secondary school, the École secondaire de l'Aubier, and I am happy that I was able to inspire young people to engage in entrepreneurship and to take up new challenges!" said Leattytia Badibanga, founder of Les Pattes jaunes in the Chaudière-Appalaches region, which is the only French-language web catalogue listing the animals that have been put up for adoption by Québec's ethical animal sanctuaries.

About the Semaine des entrepreneurs à l'école
The mission of OSEntreprendre is to foster the spirit of entrepreneurship in order to help build a proud, innovative, committed and prosperous Québec. The Semaine des entrepreneurs à l'école raises awareness of the entrepreneurial spirit among students ranging from elementary school to university by having entrepreneurs give talks in schools at the start of the school year. These speakers share their business experience with students and encourage them to carry out projects that meet needs in their communities. The Semaine des entrepreneurs à l'école, a production of OSEntreprendre and Entreprendre c'est apprendre, is an initiative of the founding partners: the National Bank, the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, and Desjardins. It receives support from the Québec government.
