Pennies for Poppies and poppy displays to honour heroes

OAKVILLE, ON, Nov. 8, 2018 /CNW/ - Throughout Veterans' Week, observed on Nov. 4 to Nov. 11, Seasons Retirement Communities across Ontario and Alberta engage in commemorative initiatives to honour the brave men and women who served our country.

"Veterans' Week is especially significant because Seasons is home to many heroes. This week gives our communities the opportunity to recognize and thank the many veterans who fought for our freedom," says LeighAnne Voll, COO, Seasons Retirement Communities. "Seasons organizes Pennies for Poppies and the poppy gardens to pay respect to veterans within our homes and in our communities at large."

From Oct. 27 to Nov. 11, 2018, each Seasons Retirement Community participated in the third annual Pennies for Poppies program by collecting pocket change donations in support of its local Royal Canadian Legion. On Friday, Nov. 2, residents and staff 'planted' hundreds of paper poppies in the gardens as a promise to never forget.

"We're fortunate to have the ability to provide our veteran residents the peaceful, fulfilling retirement they deserve," says Voll. "This week reminds our staff who we are working for and why it's important to always go above and beyond to meet their needs."

The poppy gardens will be displayed until Nov. 11. Seasons Retirement Communities created a video in respect of veterans who stood up for the rights we enjoy today.
