Ford's fledgling anti-worker government circling the drain
TORONTO, Nov. 5, 2018 /CNW/ - Doug Ford's desperate Cabinet scramble just a few months into the job is yet another sign that his reign of error is doomed to failure, says OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas.
"Ford pulling the plug on his four-month-old Cabinet doesn't inspire confidence," said Thomas. "This government is drowning in its own bathwater and circling the drain."
"From the botched cannabis privatization mess to wasting hard-earned taxpayer dollars on useless border signs, Ford's flimsy house of cards is collapsing, no matter how he tries to spin it. He might as well appoint himself Minister of Chaos and Confusion."
With one minister gone and two others demoted, Ford is scrambling to find more bodies for his revolving-door Cabinet, said Thomas. Ford didn't even face reporters when the Cabinet changes were announced. Thomas said it's no surprise that he's hitting the reset button behind closed doors and dodging the media, given recent polls that show his government is tanking badly with voters.
It's no wonder, given how Ford is handing out top-brass jobs to his friends while attacking Ontario's most vulnerable, said Eduardo (Eddy) Almeida, OPSEU's First Vice-President/Treasurer.
"The king of cronyism is only shuffling the deck chairs on the Tory Titanic," Almeida said. "Can't he see what's right in front of him? Ontarians are fed up with politicians who put profits ahead of people, but we're here to hold his feet to the fire."
Ford's government seems to be lurching and staggering out of control, but the Premier could change that if he took the time to listen to his front line workers, Thomas said.
"We at OPSEU are more than happy to pass on our knowledge to government," said Thomas. "I talk to our members every day and can share what they're telling me."
"Premier do yourself a favour and let's sit down for coffee."
