Taiwan cycled into Vancouver on November 1

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Nov. 4, 2018 /CNW/ -- On November 1, a selection of world-class instructors led an upbeat spin class at the prestigious Cyklus cycling studio in Vancouver. The class virtually took participants through the beautiful landscapes of the Taiwanese countryside.

The cycling journey was inspired by the Cycle Route No. 1, a 968-kilometer route that circumnavigates the island and takes 10 to 12 days to complete. The 15-minute class took riders along the dramatic Qingshui Cliff, mimicked steep labyrinths of Taroko Gorge, traveled along the river of New Taipei City and concluded on the winding paths of Sun Moon Lake. The music was inspired by the vibrant sounds and sights of Taiwan to complement the journey as riders virtually navigated the stunning sights of the island nation.

Delicious Taiwanese-inspired cuisine was served after the class, and a guest speaker elaborated on their experiences cycling in Taiwan and offered unique insights into the destination. Participants at the Vancouver cycling event had a chance to win one round-trip ticket from Vancouver to Taiwan courtesy of China Airlines. 

Known as "the bicycle kingdom," Taiwan has been a paradise for cyclers for a number of years, even before the legendary Cycle Route No.1 was constructed. In 1981, the well-known bicycle brand Giant Bicycles was established in Taiwan, which helped accelerate a national and global interest in bicycling. Today, Taiwan is a major destination for all types of cyclists and all ranges of levels. The easily accessible trail networks and bike paths allow for people to fully immerse in Taiwan's natural wonders. This November, participants looking to race with seasoned veterans, enjoy a leisurely family ride or something in between, the 2018 Taiwan Cycling Festival is also a great opportunity to experience cycling around the island.

There are more than 20 direct flights from Vancouver to Taiwan every week operated by China Airlines, EVA Airways and Air Canada, making Taiwan an extremely accessible destination from Vancouver. Beginning in 2019, Taiwan will promote the "Small Town Tourism Year" and cycling is a great way to encourage visitors to venture "off the beaten path" and explore other beautiful cities and towns beyond Taipei.
