MEDIA ADVISORY - First-Ever Toronto Social Capital Study by Toronto Foundation and Environics Institute for Survey Research to be Released November 6

TORONTO, Nov. 2, 2018 /CNW/ - On Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at 9:00 am, Toronto Foundation and the Environics Institute for Survey Research, will release the Toronto Social Capital Study, a benchmarking report assessing the city's social capital levels. More than 400 Toronto city builders and philanthropists will gather for a presentation of the study's key findings, a panel conversation with residents and community organizations discussing what social capital looks like in action, and an announcement of nine resident-led projects that will strengthen social capital and urban resilience at the neighbourhood level.

Toronto Foundation (CNW Group/Toronto Foundation)

Social capital is the essential "lubricant" that binds people together as a city. It is as critical as economic capital to making communities productive, healthy, and safe; and it is an important driver of life satisfaction and resilience. The Toronto Social Capital Study is the first study of its kind in Canada and its insights are intended to provide city builders and community leaders with data, which may inform policies and philanthropic investments that can improve the quality of life for the city's residents. The study measures the sense of trust Torontonians have in one another and city institutions, the strength of residents' informal and formal relationships, the extent to which people are civically engaged, and how citizens see their neighbourhoods as supporting the type of life and environment they want for themselves.
