Verizon Dominates in Latest RootMetrics® Mobile Performance Report for Riverside

BELLEVUE, Wash., Oct. 11, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- A new report from RootMetrics by IHS Markit, the gold standard for mobile performance benchmarking, reveals Verizon continues to shine when it comes to consumer mobile experience in Riverside. According to the latest 2nd Half 2018 Riverside Metro RootScore® Report, Verizon wins outright awards in overall performance, network reliability, network speed, data performance, and call performance. However, the carrier shares the award for text performance with AT&T and T-Mobile.

Looking at data performance in the metro area, Verizon records the fastest median download speed at 33.4 Mbps, allowing subscribers to download a high-definition TV show in about three minutes. Notably, Sprint's median download speed more than doubled from 12.0 Mbps during the last round of testing to 24.9 Mbps.

"Riverside residents need a strong mobile network that can cater to an on-the-go lifestyle, and Verizon is consistently delivering," said Doug King, director of business development at RootMetrics. "However, with high scores across the board in network reliability and call performance categories, it's clear that all the carriers are working to meet the high standards of today's smartphone users."

This is the fifteenth time RootMetrics has tested the mobile networks in Riverside and issued findings for the metro area. RootScore Reports provide a scientific, independent, consumer-focused assessment of mobile network performance.

Mobile Performance You Can Depend on

Reliability and speed are crucial to a consistently good mobile experience. RootMetrics indicates performance in these key areas with its network reliability category, a combination of results from data, call, and text tests; and its network speed category, which examines results across testing of data transfers, downloading email, and web/app tasks. While all four carriers earn high scores of 97.1 or higher in the network reliability category, Verizon wins the award outright for the third report in a row. The carrier also claims the Network Speed RootScore Award for the tenth consecutive report.

Data Performance

The data performance category reflects how well networks perform in downloading and uploading data, performing email tasks, and downloading files that approximate loading typical webpages or apps. Verizon wins the Data Performance RootScore Award outright for the tenth consecutive report, and also records the fastest median download and upload speeds at 33.4 Mbps and 22.7 Mbps, respectively. At this upload speed, Verizon subscribers can expect to post a picture to social media in less than two seconds.

Call and Text Performance

Call and text capabilities are fundamental to a strong mobile experience. Call performance testing is based on how reliably each network can place and maintain calls, while text performance measures how reliably and quickly consumers can send and receive text messages. Verizon wins the Call Performance RootScore Award outright, which the carrier previously shared with AT&T. Meanwhile, AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile share the award for text performance, which was previously held by all four carriers.

Comprehensive Testing
To evaluate the mobile experience in Riverside, RootMetrics conducted tests across all hours of the day and night from September 5 through September 13. Using smartphones purchased off the shelf at carrier stores, tests were conducted indoors at 56 locations and while driving 1,121 miles. For details about RootMetrics testing, see the methodology section of the RootMetrics website.
