Somos, Inc. Announces Agreement with NetNumber to Streamline Text Enablement of Toll-Free Numbers

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J., Oct. 9, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- In line with recent action by the FCC requiring subscriber authorization to text enable Toll-Free Numbers, Somos, Inc., the provider of trusted, neutral Toll-Free numbering and registry administration services for the telecommunications industry, has announced an agreement with NetNumber to provide an integrated provisioning service that will utilize registry services from Somos to validate subscriber assignment and authorization prior to text enablement of Toll-Free Numbers.

This partnership promotes consistency, reliability and compliance for providers of texting and other multimedia services for Toll-Free Numbers.  The integrated service will simplify text enablement for end subcribers while providing protection from fraudulent actors.

Somos operates the Texting & Smart Services (TSS) Registry which is the centralized registry to administer the use of Toll-Free Numbers for text messaging and multimedia services.  The TSS Registry operates as the authoritative registry for text enabled Toll-Free Numbers by authenticating the text enablement of Toll-Free Numbers on behalf of the subscribers through Repsonsible Organziations and providing routing information for texting and other multimedia services associated with Toll-Free Numbers.

NetNumber operates the Override Services Registry (OSR) that enables certain override services, including text messaging and other multimedia services, through a single point of contact for text enablement of all telephone numbers.  NetNumber will be the provider of data distribution services for all text enabled Toll-Free Numbers registered in the TSS Registry through its OSR Data Distribution Services.  NetNumber will provide Toll-Free Number text enablement services to customers of the TSS Registry via a common OSR interface.
